Laughter
Media: Pencil and paper
My inspiration for this piece was to create the humor and glee someone feels without having to pose for it. Often we take "selfies" and create false happiness and laughter, but babies are our simplest forms of honesty. They have not learned the ability to fake happiness or fake cry, they show simply what the feel.
I used a grid technique and lightly mapped out where the eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows, headband, ear, and hair would be and then I added one slight value everywhere. After that, I took my reference and decided what was dark and what was light, and added where I needed to. Then I took an eraser and took up some of the values where it needed to be lighter. When I was done adding everything such as the hair and shaded the face, I took a cotton ball over the face itself to smooth out the lines even more and a tortillian over the hair to make the hair look thicker and more realistic
