Media: Charcoal and paper
My inspiration for this piece was finding the beauty within the struggle. Also, showing recognition for those who find the strength to get up and continue on when they'd rather not. The girl in my piece has a pained look on her face and is bent over, wrapped up in some wrinkly sheets. However, placed among the sheets and on top of her head, there are three butterflies that represent the beauty left within her, despite her struggles with herself and her happiness.
I started out with a few sketches of the butterflies and how and where I wanted to position them. Following that, I lightly mapped out the position of the girl herself and the overlaps and wrinkles in the sheets. Once I had finished that, I began shading with the charcoal. I added the color to the butterflies using Prismacolor pencils.
